Mavi Sürgün is a fictionalized account of one period of the life of a Turkish journalist who was condemned to exile for an article he wrote in 1925. He turned his punishment into a reward by creating a little paradise in what is today the holiday resort, Bodrum. In fact he is considered by some to be the first ecologist. The film concentrates on this latter aspect of his character and through flashbacks portrays the inner turmoil of a man who is trying to come to terms with his past. The slow pace is somewhat of a drawback, the flashbacks are often confusing and the protagonist is not always very convincing. But the photography of the country side is exceptional Kenan Ormanlar and the short appearance by a very theatrical Hanna Schygulla of Fassbinder fame adds a little spice to the drama.

After the coup d'état on September 12, 1980, a husband and wife wanted for political crimes decide to flee abroad. But their children are the biggest obstacle to this plan. Before fleeing abroad, they search for a safe place to leave their children. The couple finally chooses Mehtap Anne's home as the "safest place" for their children. The place where they left their children is actually the "Emanetçi Anne" house, where Mehtap, a former prostitute, takes in the children of other prostitutes who continue to work in the trade after she has left it... Some time after the couple flees abroad, they send an Italian girl to Turkey to retrieve their children. The Italian girl, who wants to take the child left with the "Emanetçi Anne" and bring it to its parents, finds herself caught up in a series of interesting events.

In the southeast region of Turkey, the Kurdish family of Altun lives in a small mountainside village plagued by a 25-year war that makes their daily lives a hellish struggle. As the war intensifies, the family is forced to migrate west to the city of Istanbul.

Eflatun is a master miniature artist who's living in 17th century Istanbul. One day, he's taken to the vizier's mansion by force. There he learns that Danyal, one of the Ottoman princes who has ignited an insurrection, is arrested in a far off state and to be executed soon. Eflatun is ordered to make a portrait of the rebel prince who's been condemned to death in a Western manner to help the authorities be certain on the identity of him. Upon the order, Eflatun sets off for an arduous journey to Anatolia. He picks up a girl named Leyla en route. Together, they find themselves in a great venture fraught with sensations.

The film tells the story of Temel, who tries to overcome an impossible task with his friends in order to be with the girl he loves.

Ada is a young girl who believes that if she is abandoned by her first love, she will be unhappy forever like the women of her maternal side. While trying to escape the fate of her family, Ada falls in love with Rüzgar, a student from Albania at the same university who is threatened with deportation. Believing that Rüzgar is her first love, Ada proposes him and they have a fake marriage to prevent his deportation. She believes that Rüzgar will literally propose to her on the 3rd anniversary of their fake marriage and then their real marriage adventure will finally begin. But unfortunately, all the dreams and hopes of Ada will be ruined when she is abandoned by Rüzgar on their 3rd wedding anniversary. Ada immediately takes action to get her first love back. But fate has its own way and will put Bora in Ada's way at an unexpected moment... A workaholic, callous, self-righteous alpha male with tightly closed doors for love...
