Biography
Theodore John Kaczynski (May 22, 1942 – June 10, 2023), also known as the Unabomber, was an American mathematician and domestic terrorist. He was a mathematics prodigy but abandoned his academic career in 1969 to pursue a more primitive life. Between 1978 and 1995, Kaczynski killed three people and injured 23 others in a nationwide mail bombing campaign against people he believed to be advancing modern technology and the destruction of the environment. He authored Industrial Society and Its Future, a 35,000-word manifesto and social critique opposing industrialization, rejecting leftism, and advocating for a nature-centered form of anarchism.

This exquisitely crafted inquiry into the rationale of this mythic figure situates him within a late 20th century web of technology—a system that he grew to oppose. The source material came from the prosecution, who wanted to use it as a basis. The 120 hours of material from the broadcasts of various US television stations, which the officials of the Sacramento prosecutor's office had recorded (in poor picture and sound quality), were surprisingly made available to Lutz Dammbeck in 2002. However, there was no trial in 1998.

Shatner gains exclusive access to the newsmakers -- heroes, villains, victims, family members and law enforcement -- at the heart of the stories, including those of Jessica Lynch, Bernard Goetz, Mary Kay Letourneau and the DC snipers, to separate the fact from the fiction, with archival footage and re-enactments helping to round out the storytelling.
